| Here
are books and sites that have helped me in the course of this project.
You are, of
course, welcome to buy books if you want - here's what I do.
1. Check
to see if my library has it. Even if your library doesn't have the
book, they are very likely networked with other libraries and can
get it for you.
2. If a friend reccommended the book, I ask if I can borrow
it.
3. Try to find it cheap used. I check Half.com
and Amazon's
Marketplace. (These sites have loads of cheap
new copies too.)
4. If none of the above, I buy the thing. The books
are linked to Amazon.com

Yep, not an
the instant gratification method of going to the bookstore and buying
the thing. But it is cheap, uses fewer resources, and won't collect
dust later. And I'm not a book collector. Some folks really like
to build their libraries. I defer to the public ones.
Happy
browsing, reading and learning!

Everyday
Sacred : A Woman's Journey Home
by Sue
Bender
This book was one of the inspirations for this project.
Bender wrote Plain
and Simple : A Journey to the Amish. This book followed
it, when she saw that she had a lot more to learn about simplifying.
Bowls are a focus in the book, from a Buddhist begging bowl
to one artist's enamel bowl that became her model. A very anecdotal
book, it's easy to read in snippets. |

In
Context
edited by Robert Gilman
"A Quarterly of Humane Sustainable Culture"
I haven't had a chance to read much more than the introduction
of this site, but it has loads of archived articles on a variety
of subjects. |

One
Bowl: A Guide to Eating for Body and Spirit
by Don Gerrard
This book is not really a diet, more of a methodology to help
you get more in touch with eating and your body. I'm trying
it myself, since I hardly take time to eat and eat right. It
involves eating out of a single bowl, as the title says, but
the details around that simple premise should help the reader
be more thoughtful about their relationship to food. |

The
Simple Living Network
"Tools, Examples & Contacts For Conscious, Simple,
Healthy & Restorative Living"
A great place to start if you're keen on trying something
like this. I've just started dabbling in the forums and I
like what I see. Plus, I dig that the homepage boasts. "Celebrating
Nine Paperless Years"
