Ride 'Em Cowgirl!
More on the undergarment decorating front. Last night I made
my designed undies entry for the auction at Estrojam's
Dolly Parton tribute next week. Estrojam
is a women's music festival happening in Chicago in September.
I have been happily roped in to help them design their logo.
Next week they are having a benefit to raise money for the fest,
in the form of a Dolly Parton tribute, complete with a costume
contest and a underwear auction!
My underwear are a small pair of satin boyshorts with a lucky
horseshoe on each hip, banners saying "Ride 'Em" and "Cowgirl".
I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I would have liked
to buy a larger size, but that was the lone pair of boyshorts
at Target.
I'm hoping to be there myself, and I'm hoping the boyshorts
fetch a pretty penny for the cause! I want a bidding war for
my arty undies!
Details, for those in Chicagoland:

New Project/Gallery - Masquerade
Click
here to see my latest project. While working on my
collage calendar (about 1/2 done still), I created an image
of a woman in a hat and mask as part of the October's collage:

I knew she had potential. So, before I inked in the collage's
copy, I scanned it. Later, I reduced it to fit on a Print Gocco
screen. I printed up a slew as my New Year's Card:

Another version was incorporated into a free 2004 Calendar.
It's a PDF, but it'll take a bit to load the image:

At the same time I printed about 130 on BFK Rives, a nice drawing/printmaking
paper:
My intention was to do a little art experiment on variation
and decoration by making 100 different versions. I've got a
mere 4 finished, but lots more started. You
can track my progress here.

The 36D Snow Queen - Fini!
Here's the final product, my addition to the Bra for Breast
Cancer entry. I think the big snowflake sequins make it super.

Nimbus Got Framed
Last weekend I was in the Phoenix area for my good friend Aaron's
wedding. Thankfully, Rebecca and Aaron's friend Jen hosted me
at her place. She and her beau Brad were wonderful hosts. As
a thank you, I printed this picture I took of her dog Nimbus
and made this frame. The circle in the pic is a grape Nimbus
was playing with. So, the base color of the frame is purple,
with apple green accents. It's a bold frame, but I think it
works well with the great contrast between Nimbus and the white
floor and the simple composition of the image. I hope Jen enjoys
it, since I enjoyed staying with her so much!

When
a Cross-stitcher Goes Bad
I saw this "Kidnapped
Floss" thread (no pun intended) posted on Craftgrrl.
Too funny. When will the madness stop??

The 36D Snow Queen
I've made progress on the bra I'm embellishing for Bras for
Breast Cancer, previously called Brazilla. (See February archives).
I'm more than halfway done with the two huge snowflakes over
the nipple area. And it says "The 36D Snow Queen" in gray floss
across the bottom. Much fun to make.

Bolsterriffic!
In another eBay-related sewing project, here's two bolster
pillows I last week from a piece of a old striped chenille
throw I got on eBay. The $10 piece garnered two bolster pillows
and an as-of-yet unphotographed scarf. This chair is my favorite
place to watch movies. It's an Ikea
purchase (Ektorp),
who's slipcover I dyed from off white to apple green. The
chair is a great size. My only criticism is that the back
pillow is too squishy. Therefore the two bolsters will be
used for perfect movie curling-up-ness.

Pinwheels
A few years ago, I won a lot of six 1970's pillow cases. All
pinks and gold and oranges. Along the way I was handed down
some 1970's sheets. They've be languidly living in my closet
in a pillow case. I finally cam up with an idea and began working
on it. For each of the six cases, I bought a half yard of a
matching solid. I used Mary Ellen Hopkin's brilliant advice
for making pieced triangles in her book The
It's Okay If You Sit on My Quilt Book. Hint:
You can see it in the "Look Inside" pages if you follow the
link. This method was the price of the book alone.
Above is the first set of pinwheels made. Five more to go.

Tea
Drinkers! Be Part of Art
Jamie Thome sent along this plea for used, dry teabags for
a big, big project.
Deadline is August 1st. Spread the
word.
"hello all,
I'm currently working on a project where I need about forty
hundred thousand billion used tea bags (not the exact number,
of course, but a very very rough estimate!) Unfortunately,
neither I nor my studiomates can drink that much tea!!
If there are any hot tea drinkers out there, would you be
so kind as to save the tea bags, let them dry, and mail them
to me? You would be contributing in a valuable way to the
world of art, and I would greatly appreciate it!
Please mail to me at:
1651 W. Touhy #2
Chicago IL 60626
OR:
Vespine Gallery
1907 South Halsted First Floor
Chicago IL 60608
Thanks so much!
