Cards, Cards, Cards!

Recreation of some favorite spaceman cards made with a carved eraser. Cool, space exploration colors.

Same stamp, different embellishment. Cozy, warm colors.

A birthday present of cards for my friend Anne, who have sent me more real mail than nearly anyone else. The A is the motif from business cards I designed for her for her freelance writing career. Coupled with two complimentary papers.

I'm in cardmaking mode, b/c I'm building inventory, in an effort to encourage thank-you-note-writing habits in time for Thanksgiving.

If anyone's interested, the top two designs are for sale in sets of 10 for $15 + S/H. Lemmeno if you're keen on having your own. With 11 envelopes and a handy dandy plastic holder for your cards. Makes a great gift partnered with a nice pen and a ribbon.

Up in the Air
That describes a lot of what's going on these days. More literally, it describes the three new desktops I made from images taken on my United flights to and from Minnesota this weekend: autumnal aerial, sky and wing.

A Little R and R
I just got back from a long weekend in Minnesota for my aunt's annual Girl's Weekend at the Cabin. Very relaxing. On Saturday, I eschewed the casino and shopping and stayed back at the cabin. So nice. I went down to the lake with quiet music on my cd player and my camera.

At first I surmised that there wasn't much to photograph at the dock. But I looked closer and fond some great textures and colors. Click here for the results of my sitting still and looking.

Expert, for Two Hours, Anyways...
Earlier in the month, I volunteered for client the Women's Business Development Center at their annual Entrepreneurial Women's Conference. They have an Ask the Experts event, and I think this was my fourth year as the web resource. Two hours fielding questions to a new group every 20 minutes. A very rewarding experience, like most of my work with them; getting the chance to teach and demystify the web design process.

I look like a rabid gerbil, but otherwise a nice pic. Thanks to Anne Ford who was great help!

Avis holding court.

Avis and I. So many people got spooked by her and called her creepy. I think that's just because she's so realistic and snazzy. She's my favorite Mannequin-American.

Renegade Craft Fair
I fared well. I'm both pooped out and swamped so I'll try to get back to post more detailed soon.

Oh, and at the show I bought these two rings from my friend Kent Bell. They have already brought me much joy. Someday (hopefully soon) his work will be up at TwoSpace.com.

One Down, One to Go.
Today was Day 1 of Renegade Craft Fair. A bajillion people. A big bajillion. Waves and waves of people. Some sales, loads of Lookie Lous. Not a bad take after all was said and done. There are three items: my decopague bowls, my scarves and my sunshine dolls - Nearly everyone touched them, looked, inspected, ooh and aahed. Didn't sell a single one. Shows you never can tell.

We'll see what tomorrow brings. If you're heading to Wicker Park tomorrow, be aware - my booth (booths 1-13 really) are moving tomorrow for a Farmer's Market. Go here for a map.

I'm now going to watch a dumb movie, put up my feet and eat highly caloric food. But truly, thank heavens for deep bathtubs and hot, hot water. G'night.

New Wallet from Old Materials
My simple little one-pocket type wallet was so well loved, that it fell apart. I went back to The Container Store to replace it. No dice.

So, I made my own out of an worn out pair of glittery black pants, and a big fat silver zipper. Now, I've got a rockstar wallet!

I'm thinking I'll make more to sell out of the rest of the pants...

Bras for Breast Cancer - Episode 2
Catherine Jefcoat of the Lesbian Community Cancer Project asked me to create a bra for their upcoming auction at Estrojam on Friday September 24th.

Sure thing, having already designed a bra for such reasons.

Here's the finished brassiere - Two Birds Singing Stars:

p.s. Arlee Barr sent me this super link to crazy bras made down under. I like Val James' best. They make my bra look down right pedestrian.

More Masquarade
I made 5 more variations on the Masquerade theme last night. Ended up on luck number 13, a nod to Erik and the fact that 3 people in the last 48 hours mentioned that my building doesn't have a 13th floor. (!!!) The whole lot of Masquerade can be seen here.

Bottlecap Frames!
Like I said with the sunshines, I'm working on new products for the craft shows through the end of the year. Here's a design that's been brewing. Old, snazzy bottlecaps and some star-studded hardware thumbtacks.

Only problem is that the points poke through to where the glass and pictures go. I'm thinking of making them into mirrors. Because of the pokey stuff and because the frames are so busy. It would need a simple portrait. But I could see a mirror version hung behind a candle wall sconce as being very, very cool!

Bigger Bolsters by Brandy!
I just finished the bolster pillows for my friend Jim. He dug mine, the little stripey ones in the picture. Mine were designed for the chair they are sitting on. They are filled with fiberfill and squishy - perfect for finding the right movie-watching position in the chair.

Jim liked mine, but was thinking of them for his futon couch. This time I opted to make them out of Ikea's foam bolster forms. WAY bigger. WAY firmer He measured his futon, and it was 22" deep. I cut down the foams/forms to fit. Covered them with fabric from an avacado green chenille bedspread I won on eBay. The chenille is soft, but the fabric is broken in enough that it acted like a squirrely knit fabric to sew. So theses do not have a tailored, fussy look. Thankfully, Jim isn't a tailored, fussy guy. I hope he likes them!

New Desktop - Polar Bear
Here's a new desktop image for your computer, a polar bear from my visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo last weekend.
