Halloween Felines
Last night I was musing on the popularity of reproduction paper mache
halloween decoration this season. Inevitably, a black cat and pumkin are
represented with wide maniacal smiles. So, last night I was sketching
a maniacally smiled black cat of my own, for no particular reason. Several
hours later I had about 15 linocut prints/greeting cards of it. I've got
30 orange envelopes sittin' around, so I'm making continue to edition
them to get enough solid ones to sell 'em in the store.
Strangely,
some are getting a really mottled pattern - I think I'm using too much
pressure and actually squishly the linoleum part down and getting the
bumps of the burlap. Seems a bit odd, but I can't account for the pattern
elsewhere - my lil' Speedball hand press is all smooth. Huh.
The
best part of editioning again (really the first true editioning since
college!), is the sound of rolling out the ink on the glass with a rubber
brayer. A very satisfying sound.
Next
linocut will have a lot less black areas in the design, so I won't feel
like such an editioning ninny.
Uh-Oh
As punishment for spending all my milk money on fabric, I'm not allowed
to open my fabric cabinet until my online store is up and running. Much
to do...
