Nesting Dolls
Inspired by the The
Wurst's To
Russian with Love show, I painted a set of nesting
dolls the lovely Jackie Lannin sent me last spring. Polar bear,
walrus and penguin. I know I'm breaking the North Pole and South
Pole Chilly Willy rules of a polar bear and a penguin being
in the same place. Rules by damned.

Apple
Pickin' and Donut Eatin' and Picture Takin'
Yesterday, Gwen, Dan and I headed out to Curtis
Orchard in Champaign. It was good ol' fashioned fun
and I took plenty of photos. Here's the gallery
of images for your perusal.

Elephants Continued
Here's the beginning of the elephants mentioned below. Now onto
the backgrounds and the costumes.

Crabby but Productive.
I've been crabby all day. After some flip-flopping, I finally
planted by butt down on the futon and worked on these lumbang
seed necklaces. I bought the beads recently, super excited
about my idea of how to string them. I strung them on silk
cord.
I hated it.
I tried again.
I dug it.
There was very little difference between the first and second
attempt. In the first design, there was about 1/2" of silk
cord empty between the bead groupings. I put it on and the
necklace just didn't have any oomph. It floated there - and
not in a good floaty way.
Frustrated, I left it alone. The beads sat sorted in my 12-muffin
tin (an indispensable beading tool).
Today, I picked up the tin again. I redid my first necklace
reducing the space from 1/2" to 1/4". Ta da! Now the beads
had an oomph, while still having the rhythm of the big seed
beads and the skinny silk cord.
So, I made 8 total, keeping one for myself. They'll go in
the store soon, but if you're eager to own your own - they
are all around 17" long, but hanging more like a 16" choker,
with the diameter of the seeds. They're on silk cord with
a silver lobster claw clasp and are $29 each. The colors are
simple (black and silver) but the effect is dramatic. The
seeds smell nice - granted you have to sniff them, I can't
smell them while wearing the necklace. The seeds are hollow
and really light.
Feeling slightly less crabby now.

Elephants
I don't have any pics yet, but I'm working on a set of 5 elephant
collages/drawings. Started them last night. The perfect work
to do while I listen/watch DVD commentaries. Unlike this
one, they're a combination of red/pink/orange/black/gray/white.
I'm thinking of making them a set of greeting cards. A good
profit margin, but a chunk of $$ to get them produced. I'll
post pics as I finish them.
