2:1 Pet to Person Ratio!
Meet Gunther:

My looks-like-I'm-getting-a-cat look.

If I were writing a personal ad for a cat it would read:
Seeking affectionate, fun-loving DSM* fond of lying in sunny spots or on window sills. Headbutting a must. Solid gray or black perferred.

*Domestic Shorthair Male

Gunther nee Roman fits the bill perfectly!

More soon. I just got home and Gunther settled into his transitional home in the bathroom. I had a great trip to Minnestoa and my birthday was great. But after a couple late night and much socializing and animal excitement, I am pooped out. Stay tuned.

The Hits Just Keep On Coming
Earthlink is the antichrist. The process of trying to transfer and upgrade service after I moved was so absolutely awful and maddening that I am sick to my stomach I've given them money every month for the last 7 years. I'm getting a new ISP.

My lovely little laptop may finally be dead. It's a tiny, perfect HP 1998 Omnibook that I bought refurbished in 2000. Yeah, it's ancient and only a 4GB harddrive but it was so small, light and absolutely perfect for what I needed a laptop to do. I'm investigating if it can be resurrected or needs a dignified burial.

I got a Peapod order of food yesterday and have been eating very healthy. I've had great experiences with Peapod. I hope Peapod is never on my shitlist, like Earthlink has.

I am healed! Early last week I literally busted my ass. I pulled a muscle somewhere deep in my left buttock and was in a lot of pain. Thankfully it healed before THursday and Friday's gig. And I'm back to normal now. And back in the gym!

My new apartment is fantastic! I love it and I feel so comfy. And I love that my friends feel good there too.

Despite horrible tech stuff, I am in great shape for the new year. I've got 90 more square feet and easily 30% less junk! So, right now I'm still pretty exhausted and a bit frustrated, but I know I'm in very good stead once these roadblocks are removed.

Happy 2007!

MELTDOWN.
I had my six-weeks-in-the-making meltdown today. I have being going nonstop since the day before Thanksgiving, including decision to move, packing, a move, unpacking, a headcold, a trip to Minnesota to visit my Mom in the hospital, ending in two days of graphic facilitation. The work was intense, but went well. I was just energetically unprepared.

I am completely spent. My DSL still isn't up and my poor, old laptop may have finally given up the ghost.

I totally lost in on the phone with my friend Jim. Thankfully, he was kind and I'm now at his computer catching up with the world before I buy some food and head home to hibernate.

Since I don't have email up, please do not email me well wishes. Just send them telepathically. I'm sure I'll get 'em. I may not be getting my USPS mail yet, but I should get the vibes.

Third Day in New Apartment Report
I can't find my underwear. What box is it still in?

My phone is up, but ISP's not. So if you know me and need to get ahold of me, please call.

I've got a super deep, big tub with very hot water. This makes me very happy. My old tub was great. The new tub is even better.

My kitchen is miniscule. I knew that on one level. Now I'm experiencing it on another level. I can't fit my 1 quart bottle of olive oil on any of the cabinet shelved because they are so shallow. No bulk buying for me. The flipside is that I should have fresher food for lack of hoarding space.

My new Pagent Green rug from Pier 1 looks fantastic and feels super comfy! Jim and Pat came over for Thai food last night and we were all cozy.

I'm switching my DSL over. Grrr. My first ISP was Mindspring, and I've been a loyal Earthlink customer since they bought Mindspring. I've been happy with their customer service and happy that I nearly never needed their customer service. On Tuesday I called to switch and I had a super pleasant conversation with a very competent sounding man. On Wednesday I call back (after moving my phone over to the new location) and have an awful, not useful FORTY SEVEN MINUTE conversation (er, uh, maybe 10 of that was conversation, the rest was a purgatory of Pachabel's Canon on a loop. No kidding. Over and over.) with a woman who barely could finish sentences! At one point on hold, I realize she never asked for my apartment number and that could be why she was getting error messages when testing the new address. When she comes back I tell her this and then she gets mad at me for not giving her the complete address?! Completely maddening. Today, I've got to call again and try to get a handle on what's going on.

As a New Years resolution, I've decided to always have fresh flowers. Both my mom and sis usually have flowers around. I've wanted to do the same, but in the old place was so crowded that I rarely had a horizontal surface to enjoy them. Yesterday I bought red, fuschia and pink gerber daises. Put them in a vase I adore that I got at the thrift store for thirty cents. I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

I've Moved!
A huge, huge thanks to Jen, Josh, Jim, Pat, Anne, Alise and Jay for their help yesterday. It took 5 hours to move, and then we feasted on pizza and soda. How did it take five hours? With my headcold, I couldn't connected two ideas together, so mid-move, I became quite the surly girl. Thankfully, my friends were all positive problem solvers, so they were super!

Post-pizza, I was in my new place, totally surrounded in boxes. I was tired, but I really wanted to get a little settled. And I wanted to watch teevee. Thanks to my Ocean's Eleven dvd in my tv, I got my cubes set up, and my futon frame put together. And Numo's cage set up. So we could both hunker down with some normalcy.

I just couldn't bring myself to reckoning with the phone and DSL switch. So, at this moment, my phone is at the old place.* And I'm using the wifi at my local coffeeshop.

I'm one achy kiddo, between the headcold and the move. But I can't complain. I'm starting the new year in a new apartment!

My friends praised the new apartment. Jen said simply, "Your old place and new place are simply night and day." Yeah, at the old place Jim saw three men urinating at the dumpsters right where we were moving out the old place. The new place lent us dollies that help loads.

Positive change.

Hello, 2007!
I had one of those rare days when one wakes up thinking, "Today is the day." I made the decision to move November 22nd. 80% of my thought has been directed towards that goal since.

Today I move.

I didn't partake in my New Years Eve tradition: introverting, journaling, looking back at the past year and forward to the next. I was out by 10:15 pm thanks to a head cold and medicine. The goal setting will have to wait. Having put my hands on all of my posessions and getting rid of 30% of it which was junk, I am in great shape for change.

I'm signing off, taking apart the computer and the desk. Send me well wishes for decent weather, no pulled back muscles and few broken things today!
