So,
I was standing at the corner of Lawrence and Western waiting for
the light to change, to head over to the Brown Line El. A man walks
up to me and says, "Hello, my name is Larry and I wanted to stop
and pay you a compliment. You are looking lovely today. I was driving
by and I just had to stop to tell you that. Would you be interested
in going out to dinner or a movie or something?" I politely declined
and he thanked me and complimented me again. At this point, I had
the crossing light. Once I got across the street I looked back to
see him getting back in his car. He really had stopped to
get out and ask me out!
Hey,
Larry, congrats on having the balls to do that. I hope that system
works for you, even if it didn't work on me.

"Our
long prime-time nightmare is over, and the consultant won." In regards
to the Survivor finale, Slate
took the words right out of my mouth. The creators and investors
of Survivor must have been wetting themselves with glee when they
saw the final Tribal Council. They could not have asked for better
drama.

Ah,
the rollercoaster that are my emotions.
I'm
back in the swing of things after what felt like a one-month Funk/General
Messiness. I like to attribute it to my arctic blood not flowing
well in summer. This is my time for hibernation.
I
went on vacation to the Michigan
Womyn's Music Festival. It was a great/exhausting/provocative
time. I went with my friend Kate and at times felt like the only
2 straight girls there - it didn't help that we made such a cute
couple. Every so often someone assumes I'm gay, but at Michfest
those assumptions were a whole different thing since I was in
the vast minority. Also, it was amazing to really see the full
spectrum of gender (vs. sex or sexual preference). I consider
myself very open minded but not terribly worldly. It was good
to see women who live as men, women who live as women but sure
as hell look like men, butch, femme, indifferent, uncategorizable.
This event is 100% run by/for women. It is incredible. Not surprisingly
it is extremely well-organized and it succeeds by a Herculean
amount of volunteering. My week there was wonderfully empowering.
And that's without mentioning all the concerts and workshops!
The sex workshops were a highlight - I went to one on masturbation
and one on sex toys and it was incredible how unselfconscious
the instructors and students were.
On
the homefront, I am rethinking my career strategy. I have been
trying to juggle 4 different careers at once - Web Design, Graphic
Facilitation, Illustration and Twenty-two. I was putting all my
energy into Web Design to the neglect of all others. And ironically,
that the 1 out of the 4 that I have the most competition in and
the least skill. Now, I still think I can design (emphasis on
*design*) a mean site. But I am tired of being passed over for
not knowing every piece of software and not getting to use my
design and client management skills. So, I'm not balking at web
design work - I still love the Medium (not always the Industry).
I'm just shifting priorities back to my strengths and loves -
art and design.
Presently,
I am compiling a updated offline portfolio and working diligently
on my illustration portfolio. Anyone got leads (especially for
illustration work), send them along!
Back
to the grindstone.

"Placing
people, especially small or thin people, in cool baths can cause
them to become chilled very easily."
I
am sunburned for the 3rd time in a decade. Not bad stats, but
that doesn't heal my toasted face any quicker. I managed 6 days
camping in Michigan w/o any incident, and then 6 hours at North
Avenue beach at the Air and Water show, and I'm a tomatohead!
Here's my advice. Don't assume that b/c you are wearing a hat
that shades you eyes and makes you think you're face is
shaded, that is *is* shaded. And reapply, reapply, reapply. And
I'm a 30 spf girl from way back.
Also,
my Canon BJC-5100 printer can BITE MY ASS.

Welcome
to my "Me" page.
On your left you'll find the latest links I have culled for your
perusal. Below that is my emotional weather report - an icon summarizing
the weather in my head. To your right, are a few of the latest
shots from my Sony Mavica. Above you'll find icons to other areas
of my sight. There are alt tags telling you where they lead, but
reading from left to right they are weblog (archives), art, about
this site, pictures, where, commerce, watching, reading, listening,
FAQs, contact.
This space here is where I've set up a weblog with Blogger.com.
Enjoy.
