Hooray!
Life is superbusy but kicking all sorts of ass right now. This morning,
I taught 4 classes of 7th & 8th graders what graphic facilitation
is. A daunting proposal, but it all worked out great.
I've got some modifications to make to the site - a structural shift.
But don't quite have the time to tackle it. But the story of this
morning will make it to the site.
Back to the grindstone...

I've
Said It Before and I'll Say It Again
I've got the best friends in the world.
On the ride up to my floor just now, I opened an unexpected, oversized
envelope from a one Mr. John Ward.
In it a booklet.
"How to Make a Chicken Skeleton."
I laughed so hard in the isolation of the elevator.
So cool. John won 150 points for that one!

Nine
Weeks
Tomorrow is Take
Back Your Time Day. Tomorrow is 9 weeks from the end
of the year and represents the nine fewer weeks that our European
counterparts work in a year. I recommend clicking on the link and
reading more. It's a perspective maker.
Personally, I've been trying a new schedule. Normally I roll out
of bed at 9 am and turn on the computer. I spend at least the first
hour puttering around on email and the web. I am a slow starter
in the morning and it sort of eases me into the day. But I often
look at the clock and think, "It's NOON, where the heck did my morning
go??"
Despite being a total night owl, I'm trying to get up two hours
earlier. An hour of showering and eating and puttering, then an
hour of drawing, then I turn on the computer. I started
on Monday. It worked 1.5 mornings. Still trying to go to bed earlier,
which just does not feel right.
The idea is that I give myself two hours in the morning before I
start the work day and client work. Nice in theory, but not working
yet. We'll see if day light's savings helps or hurts after this
weekend.

From
Russia With Love
Jackie Lannin sent me unpainted nesting doll set last Spring. It's
been sitting on my CPU staring at me since whispering "paint me!"
Seeing The Wurst's show
of nesting dolls has kicked my ass in the best possible
way. Check out the awesome array of approaches.

Apple
Pickin' and Donut Eatin' and Picture Takin'
Yesterday, Gwen, Dan and I headed out to Curtis
Orchard in Champaign. It was good ol' fashioned fun and
I took plenty of photos. Here's the gallery
of images for your perusal.

Sigh
of Relief
After two great weeks of traveling and mega-extroverting, I'm
home again and happy to introvert and process everything I learned
and did.

Home
Again, Home Again
"I'm California." Nice. Ok, I was in California. Now I'm
Illinois. I'm in a recuperative mood, so no report yet. Perhaps
tomorrow. It was a good trip.

Left
Coast
I'm California. My visit with John Ward was fantastic. Now I'm at
the graphic facilitation conference. Great to see these peers I
only see this time of year.

Zombie
Happily, I'm happier. I'm working my way out of my megafunk, like
wriggling out of a dress that's too small for me in a store's dressing
room.
Last night, I got a much-needed haircut from my friend Nancy. Back
to the bob I haven't had since May of 2002.
I'm working on the last requirements before I head out of state
for a week. I adore the limbo of travel - getting time alone away
from home to think and sketch. At the moment, I'm too tired to think.
Or sketch. If I weren't chewing gum, I'd be asleep................Zzz.........

Aw,
C'mon
Will someone buy me this Lucky
Lymon figure. I happened across it in a very strange
way and it makes me happy.
Please?
UPDATE: My super sweet friend Shea has bid on Lymon.
Don't outbid him! Unless you know he's not-so-sweet and is going
to keep the Lymon for himself.

Crabby,
but Stacked
Today, I showered and pulled on some unstinky and unpocketed clothes
and toddled off to the fabric store in my neighborhood. I've been
in all weekend and have been eschewing hygiene. The hair was unclean
enough that it became waterproof and sculptable.
Yes, this state of affairs in partly because I'm in a very rare
bout of depression. But really, my freelance and single status allows
me to be lax even if I'm happier.
Ok, so I toddle off to the fabric store. I needed a spool of mint
green thread for one, small specific project. I buy it. I start
carrying it down the street. Hmph. No pockets. Normally, not a big
deal, but I was stopping to get an, uh, late 4:00 pm breakfast/lunch/dinner*.
I popped the spool of thread into my bra in my cleavage. That's
a definitely plus to an ample bosom. Ample room between them. It's
rare I utilize this extra space, but this afternoon it came in handy.
* I discovered today that orchata
is a comfort beverage for me. All 32 oz. of it. I can't cry in my
beer, being a teetotaler, but I can cry in my rice drink.

TGIF
After a rocky week, it's very nice to hear this from Marg,
whose
Your Plan-It site I designed,
"I think you are a bloody marvel."
And how do I know I'm an introvert? Because by the time Friday rolls
around the last thing I want to do is go out of the town. I want
to crawl into my head and make stuff. Worked splendidly in college
when I had the studios all to myself of Friday nights.
I'm going to go draw something now...

Sexie
Eddie Izzard has a very lovely left leg. Last night I had the perfect
perspective on his leg, superblue eyes and all of those great expressions,
front my first row seat at the Schubert theater. The first half
of the show he was wearing a sparkly lycra type skirt with a very
immodest slit up the left. He claims that triangular panel was stolen.
I never knew I liked a man in knee high boots and fishnets so much.
Or maybe just Mr. Izzard's.
Oh, the comedy? Excellent, of course. I gotta say I was happiest
that I was sitting close enough to catch all the nuance. I totally
dug that Izzard called the audience on laughing too hard at a not-very-funny
joke about Ajax in a riff on the Greek gods. It's too early for
me to remember anything right now. But more than the jokes specifically
enjoy Izzard's style - that stream of consciousness style that feels
fresh and flexible. And he can stop and say something referentially
to the joke or to himself and it works. All that and he just knows
a lot.
But what really made the night for me was that sandwiching the comedy
was Tom Jones on the speakers. I went to the show with two men I
really like to see a man a really like and surprisingly got to listen
to a man I really like. Not too shabby.
Rollercoaster
Yep, I'm doing all this cool stuff like Tufte and Izzard, but in
the in between spaces I'm about as despressed as I get. It blows.
I've got really good stuff going on and some really sucky stuff
too. Right now I'm trying to take the To-Do's step by step and try
to keep my brain from eating itself when I'm not stepping by stepping.
