Voir La Vie En Vert
Okay, life is still good - but sorta green with the headcold I got last Sunday. Constant work excavating the sinuses.

Plenty going on, but here was a major coup. Over a week ago, two weeks maybe? I was puttering around in my bathroom, and I dropped my copy of this necklace. My reaction time is usually quick, but this one slithered down the drain before my eyes. *poof*

Oh, man!

I tried to fish it out with wire. No dice. I kept thinking about the necklace pooled at the bottom of the pipe. The pipe curves in a way and the beads are glass; so I knew it wasn't going anywhere.

Last night, I bent the end of the wire more into an L than the J it was. Fished around. And pulling up, I saw flashes of red, orange and yellow! I got it out!!

Ahhh... The sense of power!

Voir La Vie En Rose
Life is lovely. Life is pink.

I felt like master of my domain defrosting my freezer Friday night. The accumulated ice on the back wall and some of the top came off in half a dozen chunks. Every time one broke free I said a defiant, "HA!"

Been making nice things. Cleaning my home slowly. Drinking tea. Visiting friends. Singing loud.

Bobby Darin's More is just about the best thing better.

And when things were already just swell, I found this photograph again. Origin unknown. The cherry on the sundae.

Me me me me me.

(Maybe that lady was trying to tell me that I'm in love with myself.)

A few minutes ago, walking around the corner, a normally dressed, not-crazy-lookin' woman looked at me, waved her hands in an up-and-down, I'm-doing-something-magical-to-you kind of way, saying, "Amor, amor, amor."

Thanks, lady.

Singing Is My Drug.
Here's a mix cd I made years ago - probably around 2000. All my favorite standards, alternating women and men, called Torch and Croon. I don't do this often enough, but if I'm out of sorts, all I need to do is sing real loud to this puppy and I'm high. The poor thing was so scratched up that it was time to re-rip all the tracks and make it a proper label.

Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin
Something's Gotta Give - Ella Fitzgerald
Strangers in the Night - Wayne Newton
Boy From Ipanema - Peggy Lee
More - Bobby Darin
What a Difference and Day Makes - Dinah Washington
I Only Have Eyes for You - The Flamingos
La Vie En Rose - Edith Piaf
Look for the Silver Lining - Chet Baker
Dream - Dinah Washington
Cry - Johnnie Ray
Danke Schoen - Wayne Newton
What Is This Thing Called Love? - Keely Smith
Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin
Cry Me a River - Julie London
Sea of Love - Phil Phillips with the Twilights
Fever - Peggy Lee
Coming Home - Mel Torme
Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby - Dinah Washington
I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash
At Last - Etta James
I'll Never Fall In Love Again - Tom Jones
That Old Black Magic - Shirley Horn
Moonlight Cocktail - Mel Torme
Hit the Road to Dreamland - Betty Hutton

favorite male voices = Bobby Darin, Chet Baker, Johnnie Ray
favorite female voices = Julie London, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee

By the way, the label was made easily between the Burst design, and the banner and heart from Shea's latest tattoo. A couple years ago, we designed a classic sailor's Man's Ruin Tattoo together. These days he's getting inked a tattoo of virtue (vs. vice) on the other arm that we designed this Spring. It is hot. One more session of color and it'll be done. Right now it's sweet blues, red and yellow and it is superbly tattooed by Partrick Cornolo at Cherry Bomb Tattoo. Woohoo. Bee-you-tee-full.

Things That Truly Improve My Quality of Life
Netflix
• libraries
• the view from my apartment
• my deep bathtub
• my music collection, and singing to it
• my music collection, and dancing to it
• spending a weekend with my beloved friends in Champaign-Urbana

I just got back from Shampoo-Banana. Can't ask for more than a couple days with friends who greet you with big, sincere hugs. I feel refueled again.

Ha!
I just ordered season tickets to the Goodman so I could see I Am My Own Wife in January (right around my birthday). I am excited.

Holy Moley. Whenever I'm feeling sluggish, I just gotta got my cd drawers and pull out a forgotten mix cd. The XY cd, the first song = Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground. That hit the spot.

Bam.
I was in a car accident around 6:30 this evening. My friends and crafting partners Mel and Tasha were giving me a ride to my friend Anne F's. A complete nimrod pulled out and hit us on Lawrence Ave. A COMPLETE NIMROD ran straight into Mel's driver side door. This ABSOLUTE NIMROD of a driver pulls up, rolls down his window and says...

"My bad."

Everyone is fine. The car isn't. Tasha and Mel were good and calm. I mean, we were all shaken, but they were officious and calm and got down all the information they needed. I bumped my head. No bump, no soreness. I think the only hurting part is a strained neck muscle. Really, I think I'm fine.

Really.

I've been using the rollercoaster metaphor lots lately. Another -

I feel like I'm juggling 100 ping pong balls.
