This
year's Chicago
Humanities Festival's Artistic Director was Lawrence
Weschler. He wrote my favorite book of all time Mr.
Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder. As artistic director, Weschler
added a series of talks called the Wonder Cabinet to this
year's offerings. Daniel
Dinello, author of Technophobia!,
spoke on "Dr. Frankensteins Footsteps."
I've never been much of a sci-fi person, but I did appreciate
learning about the archetype of the mad scientist. I hadn't
really noticed the set behaviors of the MS before. Like
the black gloved hand. Good cowboys where white hats, mad
scientists wear black gloves.
