Halloween 2018 • Phobias

Oct 28, 2018

Cinnamon Cooper and Andrew Huff chose Phobias for their 2018 Halloween party. It's a trippy theme. Good to acknowledge our stuff and be playful with it... and how not to trigger ourselves at the same time?

I am legitimately afraid of balloons popping. There was NO EVERLOVING WAY I would wear balloons to the party. My nervous system would have been totally whacked out.

So I chose something I don't like, but won't freak my stuff out.

Chilopodophobia.

Centipedes.

Now this costumed fulfilled my criteria for quickly getable and also comfortable to wear. BUT I did buy all new stuff to make it. A $40 sweatshirt dress and a couple packs of black sparkle pipe cleaners aka chenille stems.

I twisted the pipe cleaners into legs and then to each other in a chain. Then basted them onto the front of the dress. Slightly tedious, but easy.

BONUS: a totally rewearable sweatshirt dress after I removed the legs.

And hanging with my main man, Sidonglobophobia.

2019 Update: That sweatshirt dresss has been so freaking cozy and warm. I think what we have saved in electric bills has paid for the dress.

2020 Update: I have gotten over my chilopodophobia by moving into a basement studio that has centipedes. They are now my coworkers.
