Drawing The Big Idea: Ink Factory at Chicago Ideas Week

scale Oct 11, 2012

The Ink Factory team are the graphic recorders of record at the Chicago Ideas Week, and this year they created a brilliant installation in the plaza in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art. A super jumbo sketchbook ready for YOUR big ideas. Six feet by nine feet?

When I walked up the page was filled. I told Jim, the awesome volunteer, I needed a new page. He resisted. No, I NEED a new page. Happily, Lindsay Roffe arrived and agreed I needed a new page. :^)

The giant, flat nibs of Copic Wide markers, who sponsored the project, made such glorious marks.

On my bulb guy, I wrote an incorrectly remembered snippet (bolded below) of my #1 favorite quote:

"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty. Think big."

Daniel Burnham, Chicago architect and city planner

I made a Brandy-sized drawing! Either I am tiny, or this sketchbook is giant. Or both.
